“The 705 arrived on Tuesday (yesterday 10/8/2010) and I couldnt wait to get it on the bike and have a ride out. I watched the instructional videos on the Garmin website and I was away!

First ride was just around the block (it was getting dark by now) so today 11/8/2010 I went to work and back on the bike, a distance of 9.6 miles, which I’d always over estimated by a couple of miles. Full panniers and a 14mph headwind reduced my speed and I did the journey in 50mins (not olympic standard)

Anyway, on the way home I did it in 37 minutes. Couldnt wait to plug in the 705 and connect with the Garmin Connect website, where you get a full break down of your journey, including speed, elevation, heart rate etc on various overlays. Average speed 11.4 going to work and 15.5 coming home! I love this kit to bits. I read all the reviews but I’m more than happy with the product. I downloaded the maps directly to the device from the Garmin website cos I’m impatient and wanted them starightaway.

You can view your ride in Google earth too. I gave 5 stars because I love this product! In conjunction with the Garmin website, it will help me to improve my fitness level. Cant wait to try the virtual partner and download the wealth of local rides in the GPX format.” — G. McBride

“I bought one of these recently and I have to say its probably the best cycle computer you can get. I’ve had an Edge 205 for a couple of years and was impressed with it until I got the 705.

However, like other reviewers of this product the base map it comes with is completely useless and you will need to invest in additional mapping, which can cost a fare bit. I bought City Navigator from Garmin on a Micro SD card and with this add on you get the full benefit of the device.
